Business Buddies from UNICEF
UNICEF Business Buddies is a concept that connects companies with UNICEF’s work. ‘We are super happy with Jacs Koopman’s contribution,’ said Joliene Heimgartner of UNICEF Netherlands.
‘Thanks to the support of Dutch companies, we are ensuring that more children in the Ivory Coast can go to school, and at the same time other problems in the country are being addressed.’
Building Bricks for the Future
The Plastic Bricks project not only promotes education for more children in Ivory Coast. It also works to improve the environment. After all, Ivory Coast has a huge waste problem. Capital city Abidjan produces 288,000 kilos of plastic waste every day.
UNICEF has some of this recycled into plastic building blocks, which are used to build school classrooms. Currently, 1.6 million children in Ivory Coast do not go to school. Thanks to Jacs Koopman’s contribution, more children will be able to receive an education.
‘Children have the future‘
The cooperation is actually quite natural, explains Casper Vulling. ‘We often get the question: what do you do for society? We answer that with this action. By associating ourselves with UNICEF, we belong to a large organization that provides help to children on a global scale. As an employer, we believe that the development of children is important. When children have the opportunity to develop, they can make the world a little better. With our contribution, UNICEF can, for example, build a completely new classroom out of plastic building blocks.’
