Expansion of 3D printers accelerates innovation process
We are currently investing heavily in expanding our 3D printing capacity. By adding several new 3D printers, we are responding to the growing demand for customization and rapid production. With this expansion, we can handle larger volumes, guarantee shorter delivery times and serve our customers even better.
Our start with 3D printing
In our search for sustainable, local solutions for our product development, we came across 3D printing last year. In 3D printing, objects are built layer by layer from a digital model. Instead of cutting away material, exactly as much material as needed is used. This makes the process efficient, sustainable and ideally suited for custom and complex shapes. Exactly what we were looking for!
Soon the first printer was on display in our showroom for us to experiment with. Just at the right time, Miklas joined our team. He was already hobbying with 3D printing and knows how to create the most beautiful product designs in Fusion 360. This is how the first designs for our new series of downlights were created: Nova.
Nova downlights and other creations
Downlights with complete design freedom, available in any size: ideal. Interest in our Interlight Nova downlights quickly grew, and to meet the increasing demand, we expanded with four additional printers. The advantages of 3D printing: flexibility, speed and customization. This proved a perfect fit with our products and vision.
Connecting the dots
The 3D printing technique is also ideally suited for creating samples and custom solutions; with special fitting rings, reducers and spotlights in special colors, we can help our customers connect the dots in their projects. The flexibility of 3D printing allows us to move quickly and produce unique parts that perfectly fit the customer’s needs. Whether it’s functional prototypes or visual models, we like to think along with creative and technical solutions.
We can also create really fun gifts; like the Easter bunnies we handed out this spring! We also regularly design personalized give-aways for Christmas, anniversaries or corporate events that add that extra touch. This is how we show that technology can also be surprisingly playful and personal.
This fall we are ready for the next step: the construction of a dedicated space that will accommodate more than 20 (!) 3D printers.
The next step
This fall we are ready for the next step: the construction of a dedicated space that will accommodate more than 20 (!) 3D printers. The space will be realized by our regular interior construction partner Project2000. To provide the space with fresh air, a balance ventilation system is being installed by Winters Duurzame Klimaattechniek. This will allow us to further scale up our production and serve our customers even faster and more efficiently.
The 3.5-by-9-meter space will have two shelving units with enough room for printers and filament storage. Behind the racks is walking space so Miklas can perform its own maintenance on the printers. Shafts and running parts of the printer must be regularly lubricated, the printers cleaned and adjusted. In addition, a drying cabinet is placed in the space, to dry the filament so that we can maintain consistently high print quality.
